This Tote is as simple to make as it gets!
I like to make my totes large so that I can use them for lugging things around, kids stuff, school books, over night bag etc.
This bag doesn't have any pockets or closure, for me, sometimes I like them this way so its easier to drop things in and get them out. Really its meant to be used for large items.
Lets get started! This tote is 16x14 with a 28in. strap.
You'll need : 18 in. Pre-Quilted Fabric , 32 in. Strap, Bias Tape
Instructions:
1. Measure and cut your fabric, 18x18.
2. Sew the tops of each end. Fold over 1 1/2 inch toward the inside of your bagand iron in place. Fold over one more time 1 1/2 in. and iron, then sew in place. ( I sew along the seam then along the top then in the middle, so there are three lines along the top of the bag, on both sides).
3. Sew the straps on the inside of each top. Measure 4 in. from each side, place the strap 2 in. in and pin in place. Make sure the strap is falling naturally and is not twisted before you sew in place! Sew one strap on then match the other side to the one already sewn to make sure they match up.
4. Fold the fabric in half, match up the tops perfectly so they are even. Sew the sides together starting from the top making sure the tops are exactly even with eachother.
5. Cover the edges and add the bias tape. You can make your own bias tape or purchase pre folded bias tape. Working with bias tape is easy once you've done it, but a little hard to explain, so here it goes.
*First unfold the bias tape. Your going to sew right side to right side, match the first folded edge to the edge of the bag leaving just a about an inch of bias tape hanging off the end on each side of the bag. Sew the bias tape to the bag using the first fold as your guide.
*Next you will fold the bias tape over and across the seam to the other side of the bag. Now with the extra bias tape on the edge you will fold it in and then fold the bias tape over to sew and secure all the way up to the other end of the bag, then do the same with the other end, fold the extra bias tape in, fold the other side over and sew to secure. Do both sides of the bag this way and you are done! What a beautiful bag!
